Salzburg isn't a city where you just run. The scenery works with you — Hohensalzburg Fortress above the start area, the Salzach along the course, the old town as the final straight. The RS weekend in Salzburg 2025 was for many their first race outside Munich — and it ran together with Puma.

PUMA. FREE ENTRIES. SHAKEOUT RUN.

This weekend was made possible by a partnership with Puma. RS got free entries for the Salzburg Marathon through Puma — meaning the whole weekend ran without an entry fee for participants. A rare thing, and it made possible more than just a race.

Saturday morning there was a shared shakeout run with Puma through Salzburg's old town. 40 minutes, easy pace, the fortress at your back, bridges over the Salzach. One of those moments where a race weekend becomes a real getaway.

Festung oben. Salzach links. Puma-Laces drin. Kein schlechter Tag.

TRAVEL. TEAM. RACE MORNING.

Saturday morning: 6am, starting area at Mirabellplatz, orange shirts standing out in the field. What makes this format special — you meet people from training you've already shared a hundred kilometers with. But on race day everything feels a little clearer.

Salzburg Marathon offers distances from 5K to 42K. RS was represented across several distances — from the half marathon to the full. Different goals, same bib-number crowd, same starting corral.

THE COURSE.

The Salzburg Marathon runs through one of the most beautiful city centers in Europe. The first kilometers along the Salzach, then out into the surroundings, back through the old town. For many it was their first marathon in Austria — and many want to come back.

What sets Salzburg apart from other races: the atmosphere is more intimate. Less crowd, more space, the course isn't overrun. If you spot RS in the field, you get a chance to wave — and get waved back at.

AFTER THE FINISH.

Finisher area at Mirabellplatz. Medal, banana, looking for the others. Those who finish earlier wait for those still running — that's not a given everywhere, but it's normal at RS.

Afterward: old town, lunch, exploring Salzburg on foot — with legs that after 42K really should be on strike. You do it anyway.
