Whether at training, races, or cheering from the sidelines — running society has long been more than just a running club to me. I love the mix of suffering together and pushing each other.
THE BEGINNING.
Back then, a friend took some convincing before bringing me to my first running society session. It was straight into the Bermuda Triangle intervals on Monday — not exactly a gentle start, but exactly the right mix of challenge and team spirit to win me over immediately.
"Skip training on my birthday? No chance."
BERMUDA TRIANGLE.
The Bermuda Triangle is the perfect mix of suffering and fun for me. The intervals are demanding every time, but that exact feeling of pushing through together and pushing each other is what makes the session so special. Or maybe it's just stayed my favorite session because that's where it all began.
WHY RS.
Above all, the people — the coaches — manage to lure you out of your comfort zone again and again, and the community motivates you to get more out of yourself than you might alone. What I love most are the shared goals and races.
"Skip training on my birthday? No chance." Instead, I showed up to the session like any other day. In the end, to everyone's delight, the whole crew got to do 24 burpees.
ON THE MOVE.
Every year I line up with running society at the SportScheck Half Marathon in Munich — for me, that's simply where the best atmosphere is. I've also been to Salzburg with RS, taken part in the Wings for Life Run, and this year I'm running the Munich Relay with the running society girls for the second time already.
But I'm just as happy standing at the roadside cheering on other RS members, for example at the Vienna Marathon. That support in every direction is what makes the community special to me. This year I've set myself the goal of getting faster on the shorter distances. That's why I'm especially looking forward to the Munich Relay. And of course my annual start at the König-Ludwig-Lauf is on the calendar again too.
